An online legal awareness seminar was successfully organized through the joint efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Ankara and the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, acting together as “Team Philippines in Türkiye”. The event marked the first collaborative online initiative of its kind, aimed at providing essential legal guidance to Filipino nationals residing across Türkiye. The webinar brought together participants from various regions of the country, reflecting strong engagement from the Filipino community and highlighting the importance of accessible legal information for expatriates.

Legal Presentation by Atty. Vahdet Bıçak

The session was delivered by Atty. Vahdet Bıçak of Bıçak Law Firm, who provided a comprehensive overview of key areas of Turkish law relevant to foreign nationals. The presentation focused on immigration, labor, and criminal law, addressing practical legal issues frequently encountered by foreigners living and working in Türkiye. In addition to the structured presentation, the session included an interactive Q&A segment. Participants raised questions on a wide range of topics, including residence permits, work permits, Turkish citizenship procedures, employment-related issues, access to legal support, and mediation mechanisms.

The event addressed the needs of a growing Filipino population in Türkiye, estimated at approximately 4,000 individuals. While a significant number reside in major cities such as Istanbul and Ankara, Filipino nationals are also present across Central and Southeast Anatolia, Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean regions. By providing clear and practical legal guidance, the webinar contributed to enhancing legal awareness, reducing risks, and promoting compliance with Turkish law among members of the community.
