Bıçak Law Firm is pleased to welcome Ally Carbonell, a Juris Doctor candidate at Suffolk University Law School, Boston, Massachusetts, to our International Legal Internship Program in Ankara, Türkiye. Ally joins our international practice as part of our commitment to fostering comparative legal education, cross-border legal cooperation, and professional development for future lawyers. During her internship, she will work alongside our legal team on research projects involving international sanctions, comparative law, international trade compliance, and U.S.-Türkiye legal relations.

Academic Background

Ally is currently pursuing her Juris Doctor degree at Suffolk University Law School. Prior to law school, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English Studies from Florida International University, where she also obtained a Pre-Law Skills and Professional Values Certificate. Her academic interests reflect a strong foundation in legal analysis, public policy, and international affairs.

Professional Experience

Before joining Bıçak Law Firm, Ally gained practical legal experience as a Legal Assistant, assisting attorneys with workers’ compensation litigation, case management, deposition summaries, and legal document preparation. She also worked on projects involving expert witness coordination and public safety initiatives, developing strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills.

Research Focus During the Internship

Throughout her internship, Ally will contribute to several international legal research projects, including:

• U.S. sanctions affecting Türkiye and Turkish businesses;
• OFAC regulations and economic sanctions compliance;
• International trade and export control law;
• Comparative legal analysis of U.S. and Turkish regulatory frameworks;
• Cross-border commercial compliance;

Her research will support our firm’s expanding international sanctions and compliance practice while contributing to practical legal guidance for international businesses operating in Türkiye.

International Legal Experience in Türkiye

The internship is designed to combine academic research with practical legal experience. Ally will work closely with our lawyers, participate in legal research projects, and gain insight into the operation of the Turkish legal system within an internationally oriented law firm. Beyond legal practice, the programme provides opportunities to experience Türkiye’s legal culture, business environment, and rich historical heritage while developing professional relationships with lawyers working on international matters.
