Our History

Bıçak law firm is a business entity formed by lawyers to engage in the practice of law. The primary service rendered by the firm is to advise clients (individuals or corporations) about their legal rights and responsibilities, and to represent clients in civil or criminal cases, business transactions, and other matters in which legal advice and other assistance are sought.

Since 2002

Bıçak Law Firm provides high caliber legal consultancy, attorneyship and mediation services to the domestic and global companies, organizations and individuals since 2002.

Our law firm was established on the 15th of July 2002 in Ankara by attorney Ayşe Bıçak Ertekin and Prof. Dr. Vahit Bıçak.

From Law Office to Law Firm

Our first office was located next to the House of Judges in Ankara. In 2006, we moved to our current office located at the Çetin Emeç Avenue in order to meet the necessity for a larger working environment in parallel with the advent of our business. We have grown from an apartment law office into a self-contained flat law office with various branches across Ankara. This qualifies us as a Law Firm rather than merely a Law Office today.

Construction contracts

One of the most preeminent and largest construction companies in United Kingdom, which built many large scale dams in our country as well, has become one of the very first of our clients to whom we provided legal consultancy. Thanks to this representation, we have earned many experiences on topics such as construction contracts, resolution of the dispute before international authorities, and international arbitration procedure.

Energy sector

We have started to work with the energy industry through representing our customer, which is an American company that drills and manages oil wells globally. The American company runs business particularly in Kazakhstan. Our role was to assist with application for necessary permits to drill and manage oil wells in Turkey.

Subsequently, we have begun offering services to public enterprises that operate in the areas of electricity and natural gas production as well as distribution. Our consultancy services in the field of energy industry have continued by assisting the largest energy producing and distributing company in Germany in making investments in Turkey.

Embassies and consulates

Many embassies and consulates such as those of Germany, Canada, Austria, the Netherlands, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Indonesia and particularly the USA recommend the Bıçak Law Firm to their citizens from 2010 onwards. In this period, we have also started to give legal counseling services to some of the embassies.

We have stepped into the information technology industry in 2011 by providing essential legal counseling to a Russian search engine company, which also has many ambitious projects in the Turkish communication market.

Turkish companies operating internationally

Since 2012, we have been counseling Turkish investors regarding legal problems facing them in various cities and countries around the world. We have also collaborated with other law firms located in countries such as Ukraine, the USA, the UK and Tunisia in order to find legal solutions to the problems that Turkish companies face in their commercial relations.

We find legal solutions for the companies we collaborate with. We come up with these solutions as follows: tracing the transactions of the ships that belong to Turkish armatures in the territorial waters and foreign ports, arbitration or reconciliation before an international authority or together with the law firms with whom we cooperate in the relevant countries.

One of the problems that could occur and may need the aforesaid approach is disagreements between multinational companies operating in our country and their Turkish distributors. Thanks to the rewarding experience we have accumulated over this period, we have become a member of many international networks, which enable us to carry out our international practices faster and in a more result-oriented manner.

Mediation

In 2012, our national practices continued, alongside with our international practices. We have started to follow up on the mediation and litigation process by solving the controversies concerning the partners and shareholding structure of many 5-star hotels which are active in tourism industry.

Training Services

Our consultation and training services are increasing year after year in the field of commercial crime law, which involves crimes committed through limited and joint-stock companies such as bid rigging, bribery, forgery and fraud.

Our practices continue in the light of our vision and mission which includes guidance for local and global investors, facilitating the establishment of partnerships, forestalling disputes beforehand by concluding comprehensive contracts, solving the problems concerning industries such as construction, energy, civil aviation, navigation and tourism.
